Year 5 Computing
Last term, year 5 explored the theme – ‘We are Artists’. They learnt how to create geometric art in the style of Brigit Reilly using the ‘Scratch’ program. From writing simple script to create circles, squares and polygons, they then moved onto 'Terragen 4' – A program which allowed them to create CGI images of backgrounds. Some of our best work is shown below!
Everyone really enjoyed doing this, and some of their results were truly stunning.
5C are learning about being a journalist. We have started by reading the news.
5C had an exciting visit from St Albans girls school. We discovered that we have electricity in our bodies, by making a human circuit.
5C went on a bird watch. They looked on the website ( rspb.org.uk/schoolswatch ) to find out the type of birds they were likely to see. The children recorded their findings on a tally chart while Mrs Bonnard took some pictures.. Finally, the results were sent to rspb website.
In Year 5 we read our story plans to each other to share ideas and consolidate our thoughts.
In English, Year 5 are learning a text called Caravan. The children have read the story, independently and together. Now they are re-writing the story on their own using pictures to help them.
After we wrote our story, we read each others. We couldn't believe how many different versions there were of the same story!
Enabling Enterprise Days
During enabling enterprise week, 5C took part in a project called active minds. During the activities we had to launch an new fitness session. The project focused on 3 of the challenge skills which were: aiming high, problem solving and staying positive. We had a lot of fun and we learnt so much about fitness.
Friday (24th Nov) Year 5 participated in a workshop at Luton Carnival Arts. They made masks and performed freestyle dance routines. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.
The new school year has started very positively. Science with a massive bang, simulating earth quakes and volcanos. During our first English unit, we demonstrated our understanding of the poem ‘IF’ by Rudyard Kipling, performing it during our Poetry Busk. The children and parents enjoyed immensely. Maths has been met with enthusiasm, enabling us to finish the place value unit successfully.
