Children experience a wide variety of music at the school. In addition to weekly song practices children in Year 3 and 4 learn to play the recorder. They learn the basics of music and experience a wide variety of songs and rhythmical playing. Year 5 and 6 extend their musical knowledge through the use of African drums, tuned percussion, creative music making and a variety of workshops.
Further individual tuition is available for children in various lessons provided by visiting teachers. These include flute and clarinet. Each child takes part in a major yearly group production and year group music concerts.
There is a school choir and recorder groups. Last year we took part in "Orchestras Live" and this year we will be taking part in "10 pieces" which is a classical music initiative for primary schools led by the BBC (both of which are national events).
Ten Pieces Music work in Year 5
Children in Year 5 have been working hard to create a video and composition to a piece of classical music from the BBC's Ten Pieces Event. The children have been working to interpret a piece of music and create movement to it. You can visit the Ten Pieces website under our "Useful Websites" page and see work from other schools. Well done to all the children involved.
